30 Ene Day One Highlights – 2015 Volcom Pipe Pro

Resumen del primer día de la competición Volcom Pipeline Pro 2015 en Hawaii. Las olas y el viento cooperaban amablemente con la competición y nos brindó un espectáculo de tubos del principio a fin de la primera sesión.

La ronda de 112 estuvo  emocionante  con algunos de los especialistas de tubos de Hawaii, y no defraudó. Makai McNarmara rápidamente comenzó con unos  escarpados y profundos barrels que sin duda consiguió la atención de la multitud. Reef Macintosh barrió el marcador de su ronda con una puntuación de  14,40. Cuando se puso en marcha la ronda de 96, Bettero Hizunome brasileño consiguió  uno de las puntuaciones más altas de ola individual de la jornada, un 8,93.

El momento  más emocionante de la jornada fue el 3er  VLCQ anual de unos 40 minutos, con 8 riders veteranos  Bruce Irons, Gavin Beschen, Alex Gray, Kawai Lindo,  JD Irons, Kaimana Henry, Derek Ho y Makua Rothman pelearon por la mejor ola,  al final fue la puntuación de un  9.0 de Bruce Irons que aseguraba su lugar en la próxima ronda  64.

Hoy sobre las 20,30 hora española dará comienzo el segundo día de competición en la Ronda 96 en la 5ªserie y continuara con la Ronda 64 donde empezaran a competir los últimos campeones Kelly Slater y John John Florence y nuestra representación nacional Aritz Aranburu entrando en la serie 7ª de momento solo sabemos que le tocara medirse con Noe Mar.

Highlights of the first day of the competition Volcom Pipeline Pro 2015 in Hawaii, the waves and the wind cooperated kindly with the competition and he gave us a spectacle of tubes from the beginning to the end of the first session.

The Round of 112 was stacked with some of Hawaii’s most exciting Pipeline specialists, and they did not disappoint. Makai McNarmara quickly got things started with a few steep and deep backdoor barrels which certainly got the crowd’s attention. Reef Macintosh threw down the highest total heat score of the round with a total of 14.40. When the Round of 96 got underway, Brazilian Hizunome Bettero showed no fear as he was threading the needle on a gem scoring one of the day’s highest single wave scores, an 8.93.

The most exciting heat of the day was definitely the VLCQ in which the one remaining wildcard spot in the event was on the line. The 3rd annual VLCQ was a 40 minute, 8-man heat in which veteran Pipe warriors Bruce Irons, Gavin Beschen, Alex Gray, Kawai Lindo, JD Irons, Kaimana Henry, Derek Ho and Makua Rothman battled it out in a best-wave, winner-take-all barrelfest. All 8 competitors locked into some amazing rides, but in the end it was Bruce’s 9.0 that secured his spot in the upcoming Round of 64.

The contest will resume with the 5th heat of the Round of 96, and will continue into the Round of 64 where we’ll get our first look at past champions Kelly Slater and John John Florence. We are excited to see our two event wildcards, Balaram Stack (Long Island, NY) and Parker Coffin (Santa Barbara, CA) hit the water as well.
